Take Back the Sharing Economy With Platform Co-Operatives Featuring Trebor Scholz
Summary
Commons Transition Coalition hosted Trebor Scholz, Associate Professor of Media & Culture at The New School (New York City), at Melbourne Law School 26 May 2017. Trebor delivered a keynote on the latest developments, opportunities, and challenges for platform cooperativism, the movement to democratize the internet and digital economy. This was followed by presentations from Melina Morrison from the Business Council of Co-operatives and Mutuals and Ian McBurney from bHive, a sharing economy platform to be owned by and for the people of Bendigo, which is working to become Australia’s first platform co-operative.
Trebor’s Australian tour was generously supported by the Business Council of Co-operatives and Mutuals. Thanks to event partners the Centre for Employment and Labour Relations Law and Centre for Workplace Leadership at the University of Melbourne.
