“Everything Old is New Again: Evaluating the Legal and Governance Structures of Emergent Protocol Cooperatives” — Morshed Mannan

Morshed Mannan (1990) is a Ph.D. candidate attached to the Company Law Department of Leiden University. His Ph.D. research concerns cooperative and democratic business ownership in the platform economy. Morshed’s other research interests include the regulation and governance of emergent technologies (e.g. blockchain), comparative corporate governance, corporate social responsibility, freedom of establishment and international insolvency law. His two most recent peer-reviewed articles are “Fostering Worker Cooperatives with Blockchain Technology: Lessons from the Colony Project,” published by the Erasmus Law Review, and “Now the Code Runs Itself: On-Chain and Off-Chain Governance of Blockchain Technologies,” published by Topoi, an International Review of Philosophy. He also teaches international business law courses and comparative corporate governance and supervises theses at Bachelor and Masters level.
