Platform Cooperativism Resource Library

Summary

Lisa Pointner (Legal Advisor, Smart Austria) at Who Owns the World Conference, convened by the Platform Cooperativism Consortium at The New School in November 2019. She is a speaker for the Town Hall 1- Cooperation: Best Practices session.

About This Town Hall: Many in the movement are starting a business for the first time. They urgently need to know how and where to incorporate, write bylaws, how to become investor-ready, create a financial model, test with users, and establish a sales funnel. They want to learn how to hire, set up a bonus plan, and establish fair performance reviews of members-owners. Founders need to determine how to attract people will provide and use their service. While the United States has somewhat accommodating co-op laws, the laws in other countries such as Canada, Brazil, and Japan are still just developing. How do we help national cooperative associations develop the legal frameworks and language to accomodate platform co-ops in their co-op law? Come and learn about these legal strategies and hands-on practices.
