The visions conjured by blockchain dreamers are ambitious and dazzling. Equipped with this technology, as one enthusiast put it, “Young entrepreneurs have realized that the possibilities are only hindered by their own imaginations” (Yuan 2015). But blockchain projects are, at present, a form of utopian science fiction: they may indeed map a coming reality, but for now, they are speculative visions.
