Uber and Lyft drivers, who often make less than minimum wage, have decided to take their future into their own hands. The Drivers Cooperative, based out of New York City, is practicing a model to give drivers a greater portion of their earnings, provide assistance with auto loan refinancing and give an annual dividend to drivers. Along with other platform cooperatives growing worldwide, the trend suggests that a shift towards worker ownership could be concretely plausible in the digital realm as workers in the sharing economy struggle over basic rights. |
