Trebor Scholz will provide an update on platform co-op activities around the world, introduce the newly founded Institute for the Cooperative Digital Economy at The New School, and report on the progress of The Platform Co-op Development Kit. The Kit is a multi-year project, initiated by Scholz at the Platform Cooperativism Consortium in collaboration with Jutta Treviranus and the team at the Inclusive Design Research Centre at OCAD University in Toronto.

Trebor Scholz is a scholar-activist and founding director of the Institute for the Cooperative Digital Economy at The New School in New York City. In 2014, he introduced the concept of “platform cooperativism” as a way of bringing the co-op model into the digital economy. Who Owns the World? brings together the global community around this work and marks ten years of the influential digital labor conferences at The New School. Prof. Scholz is working to advance the cooperative digital economy through the Platform Co-op Development Kit while also keynoting conferences worldwide. He presented at the Harvard Law Forum and is currently an Open Society Fellow.

On Thursday-Saturday November 7-9 2019 Who Owns the World? convened one hundred fifty speakers from over thirty countries in NYC to meet each other, co-design, and learn about topics such as worker power in the platform economy, antitrust, misogyny and racism in co-ops, ecological sustainability, best practices for cooperation including the allocation of startup funding, the potential of platform co-ops for data trusts, data co-ops, new models for distributed governance, and data sovereignty. The event was webcast live on the Internet Society Livestream Channel.
