Platform Cooperativism Resource Library

Summary

This blog post uses the case of bike delivery cooperative CoopCycle and its expansion into Argentina to illustrate how platform cooperatives navigate unique opportunities and obstacles in different national contexts, as an introduction to the author’s fellowship project. While platform cooperatives always benefit workers and their digital infrastructure scales easily, CoopCycle’s expansion into Argentina demonstrates that in each new local environment, platform cooperatives must nevertheless forge their own best path under the unique local circumstances regarding state support, cooperative laws, the cooperative movement, and the layout of physical infrastructure. Under such circumstances, participating in a local network of social and solidarity actors helps platform cooperatives to grow in both scale and expertise in that locality.
